Career Exploration Academy 2020

Do you have to be in high school to attend?

Registration is open to all high school students who will complete ninth grade by June. June high school graduates are welcome.

What is the cost and is there a registration deadline?

The registration fee is $60. Registration opens March 2, 2020. Early-bird registration events will be held in March and April, we encourage you to join our mailing list to learn about early-bird discounts. Registration rates will increase to $75 after June 1, 2020. Registration will close on June 10, 2020.

Cancellation periods:

Full Refund March 2, 2020, through May 4, 2020

Refund with 30% Administrative fee May 4, 2020, through June 1, 2020

Refund with 50% Administrative fee June 1, 2020, through June 10, 2020

No Refund after June 10, 2020

Why is there a fee?

Our cost per student is roughly $500. Charging a small fee allows us to provide a high-quality lunch, instructional aides, and to off-set materials costs. Each student will receive a t-shirt, drawstring backpack, a metal water bottle, and a custom lanyard.

Enrollment is limited to 15 to 25 students for each program. See the program page for more details.

Will the program provide lunch?

Daily lunch will be provided. We will do our best to provide options; however, due to the volume of students, we cannot accommodate special food requests.  If you have dietary restrictions, please bring a daily meal. We recommend that you bring extra snacks. Students are expected to eat lunch as a group in the designed seating area. They not be allowed to leave to purchase lunch, visit the campus store, or explore the campus. Please contact  if you have questions.

What is the schedule?

The daily end times will vary by program. However, all programs will begin at 8:30 am and have lunch at 11:30 every day.

Is there an option for an early morning drop off or late pick up?

Students are welcome to access the Cuyamaca campus during regular business hours. However, students arriving before 8:00 am or exiting campus after 2:30 pm will be not be supervised.

What are drop off and pick up procedures?

Students are to be dropped off and picked at the designed locations marked on campus. We recommend that students arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of programming. After check-in, students are expected to stay in the designed seating area at the I Building until they are escorted to their classes. Classes begin promptly at 8:30 am. If you utilize public transportation or Uber/Lyft to get to and from campus, please let us know.

I am planning on driving myself, do I need a parking permit?

Yes. Parking permits will be issued upon request. They will only be valid for the week of camp.

What should I bring?

The program will provide all supplies necessary for participation, including a day pack for belongings. Students will be participating in hands-on activities that may limit their ability to monitor their belongings. Please do not bring valuable personal items. The college is not responsible for lost or stolen items. As a reminder, tobacco products, drugs and alcohol, weapons, and pornographic materials are prohibited, please see the Code of Conduct for details.

What should I wear?

Each student will be given a Cuyamaca Career Education lanyard. Lanyards must be worn daily.

As you know, East County temperatures can reach over 100 degrees in the summer. Projected temperatures for the week of camp are 85 to 87 degrees. Sunscreen is suggested. Please dress comfortably in cool clothes that are appropriate for a school environment. Please refer to your school’s dress code for descriptions of proper attire.

Remember you may be climbing under cars, sitting on the ground or climbing up trees, your clothes will get dirty. If your skin is sensitive, we suggest lightweight, long pants and shirts. Closed-toe shoes are required for all activities. No flip flops. Failure to wear appropriate attire will limit activity participation.

Will my picture be taken?

Yes. Each participant will be asked to sign a model release, acknowledging that the college district may reproduce your name, photograph, and video image in all forms of media. You can choose not to sign this form and will be removed from any photos or videos taken.
